The Bahhhstun Fairytale

Do you like the accent I have picked up already?

So first up,  I did mean to post a blog on the new life earlier but, between coming down with a rather heinous chest and ear infection, being flat out at work and well, that is it really, I haven’t really had the opportunity – so here goes

It dawned on me at work the yesterday that since moving to Boston my life has been like an amalgamation of fairy tales. And the fairytale life started on Monday with Cinderella.  You see, over the weekend we had a fair amount of snow; enough snow that come Monday morning when I was going to work I pulled on my rather funky knee high black uggs and threw a pair of heels in the handbag.  Like many other a morning, when I got to my desk at work I pulled off the uggs, went to put my work shoes on and….  alas….  only one shoe.  It may not have been the same as losing a glass slipper but, never the less I was one shoe down and was forced to walk around work on Monday with a suit and uggs…  beautiful look that.  But never fear kids, like ol’ Cinders, I also got my shoe back – unfortunately it just wasn’t returned by Prince Charming.  Luckily I had dropped the shoe walking out my front door and the shoe was sitting outside my front door when I returned home for the day

On Wednesday it was time to move from Cinders to Pinocchio.  It was time to become a real girl.  I was time to brave the reality that is the social security office.  And Oh My God – talk about taking another leaf out of Pinocchios book and slumming it. Thankfully, my number was called within an hour and that fairy tale came to an end before my nose could grow

Whilst it may not be considered a fairy tale, work has taken on Disney aspect – in more ways than one…  But let’s just say that the lyrics to “A Whole New World” have been playing in my head – well that line anyway.  One could also argue that there are parallels between work and The Wizard of Oz.  As well as not being in Kansas anymore Toto, there are little people, good witches and bad witches, there a Lion and a scarecrow – and who knows, maybe there will be a Tin man too.

But now, after two weeks of 17+hour days, working 6 days a week and no let up in sight, the final character that I have morphed into is Sleeping Beauty.  Now if only my handsome prince would come and rescue me ;)
